The WAW Velomobile: a Timeless Classic

The WAW Velomobile: a Timeless Classic

When it came time to buy a new velomobile to cruise the abundant trails of Zeeland, I had a tough choice to make. The market is full of designs with a wide variety of different features. I've ridden most of the latest and greatest models now, so I had a pretty good idea of what was available. At the same time I was also thinking about what model(s) might be the right fit for the US market where dealers and maintenance shops are few and far between, and easy maintenance and durability are important.

After considering all of my options, I settled on the Katanga WAW. Why the WAW?

  • open wheel wells for tighter turning radius and easy maintenance
  • removable nose and tail for full access to all the important items
  • option to add hub or middrive motors (not an option I need quite yet)
  • easy wheel access so I can run tubeless without the fuss
  • a mature design with consistent build quality
  • excellent customer support
  • a race hood that is easy to remove and store behind me while riding
  • seat with wide range of adjustment
  • lots of options for components
  • extensive electrical system standard with dual headlights
  • multiple nose and tail option
  • base price includes all the options you need for a great riding experience
  • option for internally geared hubs such as Rohloff and Pinion

Working with Stephane has been a pleasure. He is quick to answer questions with very thoughtful and informative responses. I'm also uniquely familiar with the WAW having built a wooden clone of one several years ago. I'm excited to return to my velomobile roots and collaborate with Stephane to help others have a chance to experience this timeless classic while also looking for ways the WAW can be further developed in the future.

Test rides are available here in the Oostburg area of Zeeland where there are endless km of smooth flat trails and service roads ideal for velomobile riding. A sport configuration WAW will be available starting December 1st. Test rides are €50 and usually last a couple hours between dialing in fit and riding. Be sure to bring comfortable clothes to cycle in and cycling shoes.
